Windows 7 sleep mode

I have been having a strange problem with my laptop not sleeping properly. Intermittently (after 2 or 3 tries typically) my laptop screen goes blank when I try to put my machine to sleep but it never transitions into sleep. I have to hold the power button to turn the machine off. I have tried removing FC and the problem went away. This issue existed in 4.1.0 and 4.1.2 now. I even rebuilt the laptop thinking something was hosed, but if so, it is hosed on a new build as well. I know MS issued a stability update, but it had no effect on this issue. Anyone ran into this? If so, can you provide any further information on it? Next stop is opening a ticket if not.
