Break "internal" default members remotely on 50E

Hey guys.

I have a forti 50E fully configured and running on one of our sites, and now i have a need to set up one of the LAN ports as WAN, but the problem is i only have remote access to it via our vpn. I have been reading a bunch of threads here on how to do it, but apparently no matter the method, i have to purge some of the configs, thus losing access to it remotely.

Is there a way to make these changes without losing my remote connection to it?

For what it is worth, if you are not configuring anything on the WAN connection, you should not lose connectivity. I have often changed inside configurations remotely CAREFULLY without error. I have even gone into the spare DMZ port with a BS IP address and configured the firewall that way since I wasn't making any changes to the port, I never lost connectivity. The key word here is careful.
