Hi, I had the same connection problems after upgrading to Big Sur. However, after successfully connecting via forticlient VPN or via Cisco IPSec I was unable to access anything within the server. Finally I realized that the IP assigned to me by the server at the office is in the same sub-range as the IP address given by the router at home. So I changed the range of the home subnet to 192.168.1.0 and connected via WiFi to the home router with this new IP address and it worked perfectly. I hope this can be of use to one of you.

Forticlient 6.4.2 is out today. As far as I can tell, IPSec works in Big Sur. Have not done extensive testing but I can at least ping systems inside the network after I connect.

Hi @BrokenRecord, where did you download the client? I've looked through the docs:

FortiClientVPNSetup_6.4.2.xxx_macosx.dmg
Free VPN-only installer.

Is available as ref'd: https://docs.fortinet.com...mware_images_and_tools

I cannot find it anywhere on the linked sites.. any ideas?

Great news, but same problem as @Bobbyla. If I install from official site, I get 6.4.1. Would really appreciate a dl link!

I grabbed 6.4.2 from the support portal. https://support.fortinet.com/Download/FirmwareImages.aspx

Looks like they haven't added it to the public forticlient site yet.

This is a class, but unfortunately the link is empty. I understand that not everyone is available.

Is it possible to put it on a public resource?

Just to confirm the VPN only installer is now updated on the website - Mac now connects using IPSEC on BigSur

WOOHOO

Thanks for updating it. (Labelled as 6.4 but when installing pulls the latest release 6.4.2.1.1305)

We are still experiencing issues with Big Sur and Forticlient 6.4.2. We randomly get a "Connection Error" and we have to either force close or reinstall Forticlient to make it work.

I've been using FortiClient for years, but I may switch to the Mac-native VPN client. Is it possible to configure a single tunnel that works with both FortiClient and Mac-native to ease the transition for my users? I tried a few things with my tunnel this weekend, but I could never get both to connect to the same config.

Hi all,

I'm using a FortiGate 80F and FortiClient VPN version 77.0.0.0022 and IPsec is working.

But I noticed the VPN using the FortiClient is very slow.
I reached 26,2 / 20,9 MB/s while using the BigSur 11.4 Native IPsec VPN I'm getting 54,1 / 72,2 MB/s.
I have also tried FortiClient VPN version 6.4.3.1325 but that is giving the same results.

I have tested it internal so there is no internet traffic what can cause this.

Do you see same results and does anyone has an idea what to do to get the same speed with the FortiClient IPsec VPN. I prefer to use the FortiClient because we used MFA with the FortiTokens.

Rgds

Hi, for us SSL-VPN (forticlient 6.4.3) connects easily on a FortiGate 81F running 6.4.6, however the performance on Mac OSX Big Sure decreases over time and sometimes even stop working without actually disconnecting the user.

We decided to give a try to the Native Cisco Client and spent a long time understanding that we cannot use a named object in a split-tunneling rule (whereas it is automatically entered by the wizard) : either disable split-tunneling or use a subnet.
Otherwise the diag debug app ike -1 will show that the client acrtually completes the connection, but without further notice it will disconnect after 2-3 seconds (on the client side it never says "connected").

The connection is a million times faster now, and we will see if the performance is better in the next few days.

Regarding the MFA aspect, I found here https://blog.boll.ch/fortigate-ipsec-vpn-with-native-macos-client/ that we should concatenate the token directly after the password however I don't see how it could work without a FortiAuthenticator (but I don't need it for my current use case).

Regards

Vincent

The problem might be in the VPN provider you're currently using.

I'm using the cisco ipsec as well on Big Sur and it works very stable. The issue I'm facing is the I would like to start the VPN connection on OS start up automatically. All tries like adding the VPN connection to user profile, using a little software or creating a script to establish a automatic VPN connection on start up has been failed.
Is there a way to do it?
