We would like to utilize network monitoring so that we get a notice if any WAN connection goes off-line. We plan to ping the WAN gateway address(es) to detect if a WAN connection fails. Curious if this is the best way to handle this?
Is there a recommended way to monitor that the LAN is up? If possible I would like to ping the firewall internal address, a network switch, and a computer on the network to be sure the internal network is up and is working. What is recommended to safely accomplish this? Are Virtual IPs (port forwarding) required?
To verify that the firewall LAN was up would, we set up Virtual IP for the firewall, turn on Ping in administrative access, and set a policy for this connection?
if you have FAZ you can configure event handler in the event your Fortigate interface experience status issue it will notify you/admin
