Gateway configuration is adding a number to the assigned ip adres

When I start a VPN connection the PC get's an IP address.

When I perform ipconfig on the PC I notice the gateway IP address is almost the same IP address, it's just one number higher.

For example, the IP address assigned to the PC is x.x.x.228. The gateway becomes x.x.x.229.

I checked this on another PC and the same happens, in this case x.x.x.230 and the gateway becomes x.x.x.230.

This is perhaps the default configuration but we want to have the same gateway for all PC's using the VPN.

How do I change this?
