Is No manual definition update via GUI in 6.0?

I Can't find the button that used to be there...

Can you share a screen capture of the FortiGuard page? Which build are you using? And which signatures are you not able to update?

Attached screen shot. Version 6.0.1 As you can see, there's no upload button.

The "upload" button is only shown if there is a license for that package. In the screen shot, each package is "Not Licensed".

Partially true.

Seems like effectively Licence enforcement changed between 5.6 and 6.0 somewhere.

I have devices registered but without any licence.

5.6 version allow manual upload of Database files (vsid/nids/iris/apdb can be)

6.0 does not allow as you observe, requesting to "Renew Licence" only...

Procedure to have an updated unit, or in case you need to restore a unit not having anymore Contract, but relying on Application Control or custom IPS configuration, being as follow:

- Start with a 5.6 unit fresh Firmware

- Manual upload of Database definition

- Upgrade to 6.0 FortiOS manually

- Restore 6.0 configuration
