We cant get this fix to work for Windows Server 2012 R2. Has anyone been able to get this to work Windows Server 2012 R2?

Keep in mind that all the fix does is go through the "interfaces" registry keys, cleaning them up (repairing or removing damaged entries).  Not sure what it does in the event of the "1024 ghost network interfaces" issue (as indicated in the linked post).

We've had a couple users with this same problem.  counts to 98% and fails.  On the Fortigate it shows the user attempting to connect, but never receives an IP from the IP Pool.  Restarting the FortiClient SSL VPN Service on the LOCAL PC fixes it...for that time being.

I would like to reiterate: we were provided the SSL VPN Client from a third party software company, so we are unaware of any release notes. We are trying to get FortiNet VPN running on Windows Server 2012 R2, which comes with Internet Explorer 11 as the base version of the browser. We don' t believe it is possible to downgrade from this base version. We are running version 4.0.2294 of the 64bit SSL VPN (Only) client.

As a minor note not directly related to the issue, but could be useful for a work around. It IS possible to "downgrade" IE11. If you open windows update and then click on installed updates, you can uninstall the IE11 update to revert to an older version.

Dennis, you did catch the part about this being just the SSLVPN client, not the full Forticlient? The cisco link you provided regarding the ghost doesn't seem to apply as I am having this problem on systems that used to work and clean brand new systems - none of whom who are having the massive count of ghost connections.

I am glad that a full resinstall of the forticlient worked for you but for those of us using just the SSLVPN client are still scratching our heads.

Hi guys,

I have this Windows 8.1 issue; SSL client connects then disconnects after 10s; any hint to make this work?
Server is Fortigate 100D with 5.2.2

Thanks in advance!

Here is my similar situation and the solution. I did contact technical support and they directed me to the Microsoft forums. I adapted my solution from the link they provided.

FG200B - 5.2.2
Vendor cannot connect to SSL VPN after upgrading from SSLVPN client 4.x to FortiClient 5.x from forticlient.com

I installed the same client to test. Before changing anything my 4.x SSL VPN client worked just fine. After switching to FortiClient 5.x my VPN connection now fails at 98%. I open support ticket and tell support the 5.x client is broken. after a lot of back and forth talk, I downgrade back to my 4.x client with the same failure at 98%. Now I realize it is not a 5.x client issue.

Now that I have resolved this, my theory is that the WAN Miniport adapter (purely software defined in the registry) got corrupted either during the 4.x uninstall, the 5.x install, or the 4.x > 5.x upgrade. [I cannot remember if I upgraded or uninstalled/installed]

my solution is below:

Windows RAS Error 720 - PPP VPN fails or disconnects
http://www.paulscomputers...les/article.php?ID=298

FG200D 5.6.5 (HA) - primary
FWF50B' s 4.3.x, FG60D's 5.2.x, FG60E's 5.4.x                   [Did my post help you? Please rate my post.]

We're working with Microsoft, and will hopefully have a fix soon. Both companies are aware of the issue. Thank you for sharing the WAN Miniport adapter resolution.

Hi all,
I'm facing  into the same issue which is driving me crazy. All the solutions you posted is unsuccesful in my case, some clients can connect and many other no. All Fortinet connections to many different customers are not working. I'm really depressed, anyone can give me any other hints.

Thanks

We are running Windows Server 2012 R2. We have installed the most recent FortiNet client (vpn only), version 5.2.0.0591. We have configured an SSL-VPN connection. When we click on the " connect" button, the status progresses all the way to 98% and then hangs. We have disabled the windows firewall, do not have any anti virus software installed, no group policies are being applied, and no other applications are running when we attempt to make the VPN connection. Thanks for helping!

luca.comes,

Do all your WAN miniport adapters appear in device manager when you show hidden devices? Make sure you see "WAN Miniport (IP)" and "WAN Miniport (PPTP)".

Hi Paul,
thank you for your reply. yes all the adapters seem ok in the device manager, anyway I tried to reinstall them but the behavoiur doesn't change. The strange thing is that until 2 weeks ago all the vpns were working fine, suddenly after the 1 of may they don't work anymore while other ssl vpns (Cisco anyconect for example) are working fine. No updates were made and no network modification, also some client are working fine (mine is one of them) and many others no. I don't know what to check the log file can't help and I can't read log file from the fortinet appliance.

I was having the same issue, it turned out to be an issue with vpnike.dll. Ultimately the remote access connection manger service would not start. This hotfix from microsoft fixed the issue http://hotfixv4.microsoft.com/Windows%207/Windows%20Server2008%20R2%20SP1/sp2/Fix463202/7600/free/465939_intl_i386_zip.exe)

Can you point me to the KB article for that hotfix?  I couldn't seem to find it based on the Fix # or filename.  I'd like to know what the issue with the .dll is and what the hotfix does.  Thanks!

Hi Guys,
I solved problem. First you must open "Device Manger".
Second click network adapters.
Third look for "yellow cautions". Uninstall all have yellow caution adapters.
For uninstall you must look microsoft support site.
This has solved problem. Have nice days.

Christopher,

Your post indicates that this is a known issue and that Fortinet and Microsoft are working on it. Can you please provide an update?

Thank you!

Hi,
after having encountered the 98% disconnect problem too, I found something that worked for me:
I was charging my mobile over USB, and it provides a modem to Windows. Although the ISDN device is selected for fortissl, and although "repairing" FortiClient and rebooting while the phone was charging, I couldn't connect. After disconnecting the Phone, "repairing" the FortiClient installation and rebooting, I can connect again.

HTH,
McKoene
