VPN stuck at status 98%

We are running Windows Server 2012 R2. We have installed the most recent FortiNet client (vpn only), version 5.2.0.0591. We have configured an SSL-VPN connection. When we click on the " connect" button, the status progresses all the way to 98% and then hangs. We have disabled the windows firewall, do not have any anti virus software installed, no group policies are being applied, and no other applications are running when we attempt to make the VPN connection. Thanks for helping!

Hi,

I seem to be experiencing this problem, or very similar problem.

Forticlient hangs at 98% while connecting.  But this only happen occasionally -- especially if the connect dropped for some reason and I try to connect again (possibly every time this happens).

I am able to get Forticlient to connect if I reboot my machine.  So maybe this is not the identical problem discussed here.  Sometimes it gives the "You already have an open SSL VPN connection" warning, but not always. Either way, it stops at 98%, after a minute or so, it just clears the login fields of the forticlient window as if nothing had ever happened.

Rebooting my machine "resets" something and makes connection possible.  But this is a frustrating workaround.

Is there a process or service I should be able to restart that would have the same effect as rebooting?

Which OS are you running? Did you unselect IPv6 for the local and the VPN interface? Are you running a local firewall?

We are running Windows Server 2012 R2 (64 bit). Yes, we unselected IPV6 for the LAN connection and it was already unselected for the VPN connection. Yes, we are running the Windows firewall, but if we disable it, the VPN client still hangs at 98%. We mentioned this before, but when we look at the " fortissl" network connection, it displays " Unavailable - device missing" .

Yes, this issue still persists for connecting from a Windows Server 2012 R2 x64 machine. I am running a Fortigate 60D with Firmware V5.2.1 Build 0618 and FortiClient V5.2.1.0605. This is a FortiClient issue as I can connect to the firewall from Windows 8.1 x64 using the same software. This still persists after reporting this issue over a year ago. Windows Server 10 is now in technical preview and still no resolution to this issue. It is very disappointing since I own several Fortinet units.

Keep in mind that all the fix does is go through the "interfaces" registry keys, cleaning them up (repairing or removing damaged entries).  Not sure what it does in the event of the "1024 ghost network interfaces" issue (as indicated in the linked post).

We've had a couple users with this same problem.  counts to 98% and fails.  On the Fortigate it shows the user attempting to connect, but never receives an IP from the IP Pool.  Restarting the FortiClient SSL VPN Service on the LOCAL PC fixes it...for that time being.

Dennis, you did catch the part about this being just the SSLVPN client, not the full Forticlient? The cisco link you provided regarding the ghost doesn't seem to apply as I am having this problem on systems that used to work and clean brand new systems - none of whom who are having the massive count of ghost connections.

I am glad that a full resinstall of the forticlient worked for you but for those of us using just the SSLVPN client are still scratching our heads.
